All About Women: What Big Sister Doesn't Want You to Know, by Simon Sheppard

'The whole education of women ought to be relative to men. To please them, to be useful to them, to make themselves loved and honoured by them, to educate them when young, to care for them when grown, to counsel them, to console them, and to make life sweet and agreeable to them -- these are the duties of women at all times and what should be taught them from their infancy.' Jean-Jacques Rousseau, quoted on the back cover of the print edition.

'All About Women' wasn't meant to be a fun book, but by being so unblushingly forthright -- in order to cram as much information as possible into its 52 pages -- it became so. This outrageously politically incorrect book is essential reading for men, and feminists looking for a hate figure will also find it useful. In 'dip into' format with quotes by Darwin etc. about the nature and inferiority of women. "I wish I'd had this in my pocket as a youth" remarked one reader. Masses of solid information with no punches pulled. This second edition includes an introduction by Jack Donovan, a few amendments and some additional material.

The print edition has ISBN 9781901240306.

pretty controversial, yet
By theadoor
I was looking for some literature in evolutionary strategies in business and competition. Being a female myself, I found the title too provocative to pass this book up, even though this was not exactly the topic of my initial interest.

What I found in this relatively quick read (the whole book didn't take more than an hour to finish) was an overview of tactics that females supposedly employ to maximise the survival of their genes. The book is, as warned, pretty controversial, yet, gender bias and pride aside, I was surprised how much of the strategies did ring a bell. Some of the stuff was outright entertaining (e.g. types of females, hazard alert), some thought provoking (information control and ambiguity - I admit I do this), and some mildly disturbing (as in misguided and self-contradictory). I'll elaborate on the last point.

For once, women encouraging immigration? That makes absolutely no sense from an evolutionary standpoint, as security for women seems to be a much larger concern. I'm willing to bet that more men will consider interracial partner (both marriage and sexual), even if for the rush of novelty than women would even if he was an easily controllable, great provider.

Furthermore, the premise that birth control is a sole female duty only seems reasonable in case of hyperpolygamous society, where sexual interactions are essentially random and the resources for upbringing of next generations are pooled. Now, in a society where children are inevitably linked to their parents and parents incur costs for having sex (rearing children), men are just as liable for birth control as women. This is probably why sometimes I hear stories from my male friends being completely horrified, when their "girlfriend of one night" wasn't too keen on them using condoms :)

Then, the book makes a quite explicit assumption and reiterates it several times that the only value women bring to the table is sex. I mean, really?! Rosseau, himself, in that key cornerstone of that quote mentions that women are to make men's lives joyful. Dear gentlemen, I hope that the joy to you goes a little further than constant access to sex :)

Finally, let's face it, there comes a point in your lives that playing the numbers becomes a little too repetitive and boring. Most men that I know appear to be interested in monogamy, *but* only with the right candidate. And with many that are single I simply see a trade-off issue of matching their standards with the realities of their bargaining power.

Depends on how you look at it.

I feel it really depends on what your expecting out of this book, what you take away from it.

Overall, there is a blend of good information and insight available, even to women, - as well as some almost comically misguided assumptions and conclusions.

There's also a point where Sheppard almost verbatim calls women just travesties of men, saying that men are better at anything they choose to do and reiterates that the only thing women can bring to the table is sex. Sheppard also attributes nearly every human flaw from selfishness and ignorance to only women exclusively. And yet, there's also some hilariously accurate portrayals of different types of women and valid tactics that I myself have done or seen other women employ, and Sheppard attempts to give a factual analysis that definitely pits women against masculine values, which, in a sea of radical feminism, was almost refreshing.

Personally, because of the preface by Jack Donovan, I pretty eagerly and blindly dove into it expecting to come away with the same gained inspiration and drive as my fiance found from reading "The Way of Men,'' so initially after delving into it, I was a bit devastated. Another read through and I was better able to appreciate the book for what it was, however, and I still did come away with it with some valuable insight.

If you're part of the dying breed that have the stomach to handle opposing thoughts and perspectives, it's only a few bucks and it's a pretty quick little read. Definitely give it go.

Good insight

Not just any book on females,; the real dirt, written by a smart guy, will expose a lot on what women do in manipulations.
