About the Author
Janet Huseby is a freelance writer living in Berkeley, California. She began her career working with the Associated Press in Rio de Janeiro and has written for Time Magazine, Time Life Books, and the University of California, Berkeley. For the past seventeen years, she has worked with Berkeley High School seniors on their college essays. Vicky Elliott, an editor and writer who has worked for the San Francisco Chronicle and International Herald Tribune, began reading college essays at Berkeley High when her older daughter applied for college in 2004. Elaine Ratner has worked with Berkeley High seniors for five years. She is editor of more than 40 books and author of numerous articles, two cookbooks, and The Feisty Woman's Breast Cancer Book.
